Is the True God your God?

All throughout scripture in the Bible, God gives many descriptions of Himself. Yet when having conversations with professing believers some don’t accept or profess that the True God is their God.

Is Your god in control?

Yes, it is easy to say “god is in control” when things turn out well, or how you or we think things should turn out. The real ‘test’ for lack of a better word, would be when everything does not turn out the way we think it should. Is the True God in control then?

You see people do not need ‘real’ faith when things are well, so to believe in your little ‘g’ god is enough. But for those who have realized that the only way to live life, good or bad, in the reality of God being in control, we would have to believe in God, not god.

Job knew that the True God was in control, so much so that he told his friends that the animals, trees, and the bushes of the earth would tell you the same thing. Job 11:7-9

But Job didn’t attribute the good only to God, he even attributed his demise to the God who is in control. Is this you?

Do you look at the situations in your life that are uncomfortable or not “good” and think that “the hand of the Lord has done this!” or “My god wouldn’t let this happen!” Well, if your thought is the latter, we’d have to ask then, what god do you serve?

You see, when God is your God, you don’t look at calamity as something far from God, you look at your calamity and at your God and say as Job said “For I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last he will stand upon the earth. And after my skin has been thus destroyed, yet in my flesh I shall see God, Job 19:25-26” You accept the fact that God is in control no matter the circumstances.

Not that it doesn’t hurt, and not that we understand, but we know that “in His hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all humankind “Job 12:10”

Is your god sovereign?

See, unlike us mere human beings, God does all He pleases to accomplish His perfect purpose or plan. This is probably the most difficult attribute to understand. Why? Because we thought that God was like us!” (These things you have done, and I have been silent; you thought that I was one like yourself. Psalm 50:21) Well, He’s not, not the real God anyways.

Does your god only do what’s right in your own eyes? Does he only use those things and circumstances that you would consider to be for your good, or the good of those you love? Again, we would say to that, who really is your god? In this case it would be an idol that looks a lot like yourself. The god that only uses whatever we do not deem ok we attribute to the devil, is a false god that that IS one like us.

God, the True God, says that even Satan must come before Him and ask permission to do his work. (Job 19:12b) And scripture says what the enemy means for evil, He uses it for good. (Genesis 50:20) Yet when you believe in the sovereignty of the True God you say as Job “though He slay me, I will hope in Him” Job 13:15a

If we can, like many of the greats in the bible, love God, hope in God, and follow God even when “things just aren’t going our way “then God is our God, if we can’t then God is not.

God is Good, God is Love

Let’s not forget that God is good ALL the time and that He will work ALL things together for good…( And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.)… this passage is soooo good and soooo powerful when we read it in the right context. If He is good ALL the time, then our son’s death was also worked together for our good and His glory. If He is good ALL the time, then your infertility is being worked together for your good and His glory. If He is good ALL the time, then the ravaging effects of covid-19 were being worked out for our good and His glory.

He does this because He is LOVE!

I know that those who are realizing that your god may not be the true God, none of this seems like love, and that is understandable, but take a moment and look with us to the cross.

The amazing love that while we were yet sinners, while we hated God, while we were ‘living the good life’ in the domain of darkness, God sent His only begotten Son to take our horrible, retched sins, and die in our place the most horrible gruesome death, so that we could spend eternity with Him. This is how we can see His control, His sovereignty, and His plans as good and love.

We all know that every day in the Christian life isn’t doom and gloom. We do know that there are times when we feast, celebrate, and enjoy what’s in front of us. However, our point is, the same God that is good when times are prosperous and enjoyable, is the same God that is good when calamity strikes.

Our God is the TRUE God is yours?
